What is TikTok’s ‘Gen Z Boss And A Mini’ meme – the viral trend explained
TikTok users have been jumping on the ‘Gen Z Boss And A Mini’ trend in recent weeks.
The sound, which has been popular on the social media platform, sees people repeating a number of chanted phrases in unison.
The trend has its origins in a video posted by user @maisieisobel_ last month, in which a group of friends describe their outfits on what appears to be a night out.
“Boots and a slick back bun / cowboy boots and a blowie / sambas and a little red bag,” they declare in the catchy video.

This in turn inspired beauty company TBH Skincare to do their own take on the clip describing themselves.
These include: “Gen Z boss and a mini / Itty bitty titties and a bob / 5’3 and an attitude / Secret product and a trench / New Frank Green and a sneaky link / Fake tan hands and a hoop.”

The trend has now spread across TikTok, with many users and corporate accounts doing their own versions of the hook, while celebrities including Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones and Rachel Dratch have done their own take too – which has received millions of likes.

However, the trend has caused some backlash as well, some calling it “cringe” and suggesting it epitomises so-called forced fun corporate activities. Others also argued that Gen Z had become like Millenials, while some comments have veered into more toxic and misogynistic territory.

TBH Skincare has since poked fun at some of the backlash, reading out a number of negative comments in the style of the trend, including: “Gender pay gap bring it back / It’s giving Millennial core / Women should go back to the kitchen / Try not to cringe, impossible / Make it stop, hate this / Fire them all and a hoop.”
In other TikTok news, last month the platform announced a new in-app experience for Taylor Swift fans to celebrate the star’s ‘Eras Tour’, which marks the first ever experience dedicated to an artist on the app.
