Who is JJ’s real dad in ‘Outer Banks’?

The fourth season kicks off a new treasure hunt following the 18-month flash-forward in season three, as they try to track down an amulet linked to Blackbeard.
Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline lead the show’s cast, alongside Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, and Austin North.
Who is JJ Maybank’s real father in Outer Banks?
As confirmed in the season four part one finale, JJ Maybank (Rudy Pankow) is the biological son of Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane), and is Wes Genrette’s (David Jensen) grandson.
JJ discovers this during a discussion with Luke (Gary Weeks), who he believed was his father, after discovering a letter from the late Wes Genrette which encouraged him to ask his ‘father’ about ‘Albatross’. After some hesitation, Luke tells JJ that Albatross was the name of the boat Larissa Genrette died on years ago, who was JJ’s real mother.
As such, JJ discovers Chandler Groff is his real father, which means he is actually a Kook.
Does JJ believe he isn’t Luke’s son?
The big question is how this will impact JJ moving forward. That is, if he does believe Luke is telling the truth.
“His dad has always been a bit of a scoundrel and he just doesn’t accept it,’ show co-creator Jonas Pate told Tudum about JJ’s discovery. “He thinks there’s got to be an angle here. This can’t be real.”
Slightly disagreeing that JJ is in denial, show co-creator Shannon Burke said: “He probably knows it’s true. I just think that he believes it more than he’s totally in denial, overtly and consciously.”
