Who sings the Black Doves theme song?
The track that acts as the show’s theme is a cover of ‘Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)’ by RAYE.
The song was originally recorded by Cher in 1966, written by her then-husband Sonny Bono, and included on her second solo album ‘The Sonny Side Of Cher’. The song was Cher’s first million-selling single, reaching Number Three in the UK and Number Two in the US.
‘Bang Bang’ was also memorably covered by Nancy Sinatra in 1966. That version was later used in the soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill Volume 1 in 2003 and was sampled in 2005 on the pop/house hit ‘Shot You Down’ by Audio Bullys.
Other artists to have put their spin on the track include Lady Gaga, Petula Clark and Dua Lipa, with multi-BRIT Award-winner and Grammy nominee RAYE the latest to step into the fold.
Other songs to feature in Black Doves include a host of Christmas classics, including The Pogues’ ‘Fairytale Of New York’, as well as ‘Sleigh Ride’ and ‘Santa Baby’. The show’s score is provided by Martin Phipps, whose previous credits include The Crown, the BBC adaptation of War & Peace, Peaky Blinders and Ridley Scott’s Napoleon.
