Will there be ‘The Perfect Couple’ season two?

Netflix’s The Perfect Couple has been one of the streamer’s biggest hits in recent months, but can fans expect a second season?

All six episodes of the miniseries premiered on the platform on September 5, developed by Jenna Lamia and directed by Susanne Bier (The Night Manager, The Undoing, Bird Box).

Based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Elin Hilderbrand, it tells the story of a couple’s lavish wedding plans in Nantucket, Massachusetts that go awry when a member of the wedding party’s body washes up on the beach on the morning of the ceremony.

Nicole Kidman plays the family matriarch Greer Garrison Winbury, a famous novelist, and the cast also includes Liev Schreiber, Eve Hewson, Meghann Fahy, Jack Reynor and Dakota Fanning.

Despite the show’s serious dramatic themes, Bier insisted that the cast shot a flashmob-style dance sequence for the show’s opening credits, set to Meghan Trainor’s ‘Criminals’. The cast were far less enthusiastic, even setting up a WhatsApp group to try to get out of it.

Will there be The Perfect Couple season two?

As mentioned, The Perfect Couple is based on a novel that does not have a sequel. However, that does not necessarily mean that Netflix will not be looking to find a way to capitalise on the show’s success.

Given the nature of the events at the end of the miniseries, most of the principal characters are still available to use as the basis for future storylines.

Several members of the cast have already voiced their desire to return to the world of The Perfect Couple, including Kidman, who told USA Today: “I think it’s ripe [for more]…I think there’s still an enormous amount of history and an enormous amount of future.”

Her on-screen husband Schreiber agrees. “They’re taking a break for now, but who knows?” he said. “You can have the best cast, you can have the best director, you can have tons of money, but you don’t always get that synergy between people where they’re making room for each other. And this group of actors was really, really great at that. It was a lot of fun.”

Netflix have not confirmed that there yet are any plans to make a second season a reality, but it remains a distinct possibility at this stage.
