Killer Mike

Killer Mike has today (July 31) surprise released his new album, ‘Michael And The Mighty Midnight Revival – Songs for Sinners & Saints’, and fans have 48 hours to download it for free.

The album is set for an official release this Friday (August 2), but for 48 hours, fans can download the follow up to last year’s ‘MICHAEL’ here.

The 10-track record also features Killer Mike’s gospel group, The Mighty Midnight Revival, as well as appearances from Offset, Key Glock, Project Pat, and more.

In a Run The Jewels newsletter, Killer Mike said of the release: “I just wanna thank you for this journey I’ve been on. This past decade has seen so many of my dreams come true, and the support I’ve received this past year with ‘MICHAEL’ has been so beautiful and inspiring that I realised I wasn’t finished with the sound. I wanted to do something with the people who have been bringing it to life every night performing it with me.”

He continued: “So, we made a new project called ‘ ‘Michael And The Mighty Midnight Revival – Songs for Sinners & Saints.’ It’s an epilogue to ‘MICHAEL’ and a thank you to all of you who believed in me (& US) from day one. The album comes out this Friday August 2nd, BUT you get to download it for FREE right now.”

Earlier this week, the rapper – who is one half of Run The Jewelstook to social media to announce the new project.

The Atlanta rapper revealed more about the album, writing: “When I was growing up an important part of church service was people having the opportunity to stand up and give public testimony on their trials, tribulations, and triumphs.”

“After the celebratory atmosphere that followed ‘MICHAEL’ I was reminded that tribulations never cease, but God is always with me and this is a testimonial of my tumultuous times, my trials, and my continued triumph in spite of doubt, outright hate, and fear.”

The album also features the rapper’s latest single, ‘Humble Me’, which chronicles his arrest at the 2024 Grammy Awards. Through his lyrics, he drew parallels between his recent arrest and the experience of civil rights activists as well as the Biblical story of Daniel in the lions’ den.

While reflecting on the February 4 incident, he rapped: “I won at the Grammys for spitting my grammar / Did that for Atlanta, bruh / swept up like a janitor / Got sent to the slammer / Treat me like an animal or some kind of Hannibal / Vicious and cannibal.”

Earlier this year, Mike was detained by Los Angeles police, which stemmed from an altercation with a security guard outside the Grammy pre-telecast. Although he was initially charged with misdemeanour battery, the city’s Attorney’s Office later decided not to pursue any criminal charges. Instead, the Run The Jewels star completed community service.

The rapper has previously spoken to NME about last album ‘Michael’, saying the record “was an opportunity for people to know fully who I am”.

He explained: “I realised this is 20 years in the game and people have met the persona of Michael – they’ve met Killer Mike, who was named in a rap battle at 16 and is the product of a nine-year-old’s daydream of being an MC… They’ve known me as one half of one of the greatest rap groups ever, Run the Jewels, but they hadn’t met Michael.

“With Covid happening and with me getting incredibly sick for two weeks before they even named it Covid and seeing people leave too soon, I thought: ‘Man, what a shame it’d be for me to die and people not get introduced to me. So while I’m here, let me give opportunity for people to know fully who I am.’”
