‘You’ superfan Cardi B still hasn’t met Penn Badgley: “It’s a strictly online thing”
You star Penn Badgley has opened up about his relationship with show superfan Cardi B.
During an interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Wednesday April 23, Badgley talked about the rapper’s love for the show, but confirmed they haven’t been able to discuss it in real life yet.
“We’ve still never met,” Badgley said. “It’s a strictly online thing.”
He continued: “We’ve definitely tried. But between our schedules – she’s busier than I am, I guarantee you. But we haven’t. I’m still waiting.”
Cardi has shown her support for You on social media over the years, with her and Badgley even changing their then-Twitter profile pictures to shots of each other at one point, which he says was “surreal”.
She was even involved in promo for the fifth and final season of You, with Netflix sharing a video of her being one of the first to watch the trailer. Her response to it was “Girl, I am shook”, and she told audiences “Y’all gonna gag”.
You stars Badgley as Joe Goldberg, a serial killer prone to monologuing voiceover, often found trying to fit in with the elite of New York, LA and most recently London. Season five sees him back in the Big Apple, living a new life with wife Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) before his dark past inevitably catches up with him.
That dark past includes the murder of 22 people throughout the five seasons of the show – check out a list of all Joe’s victims here.

Badgley went on to tell Hudson what to expect from the final season, which is streaming on Netflix now. He said: “I’m not sad that it’s over. We’re sending him off in, I think, the best fashion we can.
“But I will inevitably miss him. I’ve gotten to do a lot of bizarre things, a lot of intense things. I understand it’s a lot of fun to watch, but I have to ground that insanity, and in a person that’s ultimately so hateful. I can put him to bed, but kind of like a dysfunctional little brother, I’ll miss him a little.
“It’s a very satisfying ending, and that in and of itself is hard. How can you send off a man and a story like that? It does justice to the character, to the show, but also to the viewer.
Some have disagreed with that – the last batch of episodes has been met with scathing reviews, with critics describing it as “insultingly rubbish” and arguing that “fans deserve better”. The Guardian’s Rebecca Nicholson wrote: “But as it signs off forever, You has no choice but to deal with Joe. It does so with a final scene that manages to be borderline insulting to the viewers who have stuck with it. It’s not You, but you, it suggests, that is the problem. Ironically, for a season all about elites, I found that a bit rich”.
